George Owen | cello
George is currently undertaking a PhD in Composition at the University of Bristol. He plays with Welsh National Opera orchestra as a freelance cellist and with other orchestras and ensembles in and around South Wales and Bristol.
In 2017-2019 he lived in Hong Kong and played for Hong Kong New Music Ensemble, conducted by Lio Kuokman. A highlight was being invited on a tour to Korea for the Seoul International Computer Music Festival.
His research topic explores using quotation and writing in multiple simultaneous speeds, drawing on composers from every epoch but especially from the works of Charles Ives. He runs the Composition Network at the university, presenting topics for weekly meetings, and organising the termly concerts.
He is a founding member of the SoundWorld ensemble, a Bristol-based new music ensemble with a residency at The Mount Without.
